Sadly iCloud synch just hasn’t worked for too long
UPDATED - Sorry, but iCloud synch has not worked for too long. I still like this in principle - but it just doesn’t work.
OLD REVIEW:
This is the To Do list app that Ive been looking for. Its not simply a set of lists and its not some complex project planning utility. Its fast and easy enough to use to compete with the immediacy of a piece of paper, with the added benefits that you cant lose it, your lists are nice and organized and you can set reminders.
I like the flexibility of its three levels of complexity - Normal Tasks, Checklists (for tasks that have a simple set of subtasks) and Projects (for slightly more complex tasks that have a set of subtasks that each require their own timescales). You can easily switch between these as your understanding of a task grows.
There are various ways of orgainizing your tasks - for instance, putting them into lists, assigning tags (essentially keywords) and assigning Contexts. On the whole this degree of flexibility is right - but personally I think Contexts are more confusing than theyre worth. Contexts are supposed to help you group unrelated tasks that could be carried out together - errands might be a Context, for instance - but they dont seem to do anything that cant be done with keywords and the extra dimension leads to confusion when filtering.
The area where the app could be most improved is reminders. At the moment your only option is to set a message to appear on screen at a particular time. This is not especially helpful - and there should be more options such as sending an email or some reminder on the system that is less easy to miss. Having said that, there is a nice, automatically generated, flexible Focus list that you can have show tasks that are due within a certain period of time (amongst other parameters), so, provided you check this regularly, the lack of a good reminder system is not such a big deal.
There are other smaller issues - such as the fact that it keeps de-expanding tasks so you cant see the subtasks; some buttons are a bit small (like the button to expand tasks to show subtasks!) - but overall this is a quality app, that I would recommend to anyone looking for a flexible way of maintaining their To Do lists.
